Heal by Day, Home by Night: Your Path to Recovery
A partial hospitalization program, or PHP, is the most intensive form of treatment offered in an outpatient setting. It is also the highest level of care provided by Lotus Recovery. Individuals in this program travel to and from treatment most days of the week and are able to return home or to sober housing outside of treatment hours. We recommend this program to those who have completed an inpatient or residential program and need more structure and support than a standard outpatient program.
Also known as day treatment, PHP is comprehensive and includes evidence-based therapies, group sessions, educational classes and complementary activities like chiropractic care and meditation. Therapeutic activities are scheduled most days of the week, Monday through Friday, and ensure that individuals are working toward their recovery goals while rebuilding their lives.
What Does PHP in Thousand Oaks Entail?
As a midway point between inpatient and outpatient treatment, PHPs offer many of the same services as an inpatient program, such as medication management, individual and group therapy, family therapy, educational groups and recreational activities. Most people who are in this program have completed detox and do not require 24-hour supervision. They are ready to begin their transition to everyday life and start applying the skills they are learning in treatment to real world situations.
The treatment elements included in our PHP are:
Individual Therapy
Talking with a licensed mental health professional can help you break old thought patterns that could be contributing to your substance use and identify underlying psychological issues like trauma or abuse. Common therapies used include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and contingency management.
Group Therapy
Group therapy sessions are the backbone of outpatient treatment programs. These meetings include peer-based recovery support, family-focused groups and psychosocial education classes.
Medication-Assisted Treatment
MAT involves the use of medication to reduce withdrawal symptoms, decrease cravings and support a healthy recovery. These medications are used in combination with behavioral therapies.
Holistic Therapies
Holistic therapies address the whole person by considering their life and personality. They can be used when dealing with stress or coping with life’s challenges, preventing relapse and supporting a healthy recovery.
Who are the Best Candidates for PHP?
Many individuals participate in PHP during their recovery journey, but it’s important to identify your needs at the moment. It’s possible that you could require detox and/or inpatient rehabilitation prior to starting a partial hospitalization program. With the effectiveness of medication management, some people are able to start PHP immediately after detox.
We recommend our PHP for individuals who:
- Have a strong support system at home
- Do not require detox (or have already completed detox)
- Do not require 24-hour monitoring
- Have reliable transportation to and from treatment
- Are committed to working the program and ready for change
If you meet this criteria but lack a supportive home environment, sober housing is an option. Sober living is an alternative living environment for individuals participating in outpatient treatment.
